Loose Shingles

That leaves a weak spot in your roof's protection, which means that there is a place where water can get in and start damaging your house. The contractor will carefully look over your roof and check the shingles to make sure that there aren't any loose ones. If there are loose shingles, the roofer will replace them. Depending on what kind of roofing material you have, the roofer may have to take some of it off the roof to make sure that the patch or new shingle is installed correctly and the bare spot is covered. 

Water Damage

The roofer is also going to look to see if they see any water damage that might be happening. They may want to look at the underside of your roof first, as that will let them see if any water has gotten into the sheathing. When they look at the underside of the roof, the contractor is looking for things like discolored areas on the ceiling or on the walls. Water will darken or yellow an area where it has leaked. After looking at the underside of the roof, the contractor will climb up on top and see if there are any signs that water may be penetrating your roof. They can do this while they are looking for loose shingles.
