3 Reasons To Get A Standing Seam Metal Roof

Are you looking to replace the roof on your home and you've decided on getting a metal roof? You may want to use a standing seam metal roof for the following reasons:

Standing Seam Metal Has Room To Expand And Contract

Chances are that you're debating between standing seam metal roofing and screw down roofing materials. One of the major differences between the two is that standing seam metal has room to expand over time. That's because a screw down roof is secured tightly to the roof, which is necessary to ensure that the roofing material stays in place and does not leak water around the fasteners.

The problem with a screw down roof is that the material needs to expand and contract, which happens naturally with the weather. When the temperature gets hot, the material will expand, and when it gets cold, the material will contract. This can cause those fasteners to loosen over time, which leads to roof leaks and damaged material.

A standing seam metal roof has plenty of room to expand and contract because of the ways that the fasteners are hidden underneath the roofing material. The fasteners don't need to be as tight and can compensate for expansion and contraction.

Standing Seam Metal is Safe To Walk On

Another benefit of a standing seam metal roof is that it is completely safe to walk on when performing roof maintenance. It's important that anyone walking on the surface steps on the low parts of the roof that is flush against the roof deck rather than the standing seams that are raised off the surface. This makes a standing seam metal roof have one less thing you need to worry about over time.

Standing Seam Metal Is Durable

Think of how a roof is going to handle impact damage, which can happen from a falling tree limb or debris from very strong winds. A roof made out of asphalt shingles can become damaged very easily, which will lead to a mandatory repair to keep your home protected.

With a standing seam metal roof, it is more likely that impact damage will only cause the material to be dented. While it is cosmetic damage, it is not necessary to repair the roof right away to protect your home from water getting in it during a storm. This can give you peace of mind that your home is better protected in a worst case scenario.
