3 Decisions To Make When Replacing Your Roof

When it comes to roofing that is no longer in the best shape, you have two options; You can repair it or replace it. If the damage is minimal and your roof is still a few years from the end of its typical lifespan, roof repair will probably be your best bet. However, if your roof has extensive damage or is already nearing replacement age, it's probably a good idea to go ahead and replace it as soon as possible. There are a lot of decisions that you will need to make when it comes to residential roofing installation. Here are three things to consider

What Type Of Material Do You Want?

If you are planning on a residential roof installation, the first decision you will need to make is what roofing material to use. There are various roofing materials on the market, and your new roof doesn't have to be the same material as your current roof. While asphalt shingles are a very popular material, many homeowners prefer metal, slate, tile, or wood shade. There is a wide array of styles, colors, and textures to choose from, so make sure that you do some comparison shopping before you make a decision.

How Much Do You Want To Spend?

One critical decision that you need to make before a residential roof installation is how much you want to spend. The cost of roofing is highly dependent on the kind of roofing materials you choose and the size and pitch of your roof. The average price of a new roof is just over $8,000, but costs can range from as little as $1,000 to upwards of $40,000. If you are on a budget, asphalt shingles will typically be the best choice. Metal, slate, and tile roofing are pricier, but they are also long-lasting.

Tear Off The Roof Or Roof Over?

Another decision that you will need to make when getting a new roof is whether you want to tear off your current roof or roof over it. A roof over is as it sounds; new layer of roofing is installed on top of your existing roof. The main advantage of this is that it saves you money. However, by tearing off your roof, your roof decking can be examined and repaired if needed. Most experts recommend tearing off the existing roof before the new installation.

If you are getting a new roof, there are a few decisions that you will need to make. First, you'll want to look at the different roofing materials and choose the right one for your home. Next, you'll want to decide how much you want to spend on your roof installation. Finally, you'll need to consider whether a tear-off or a roof over is appropriate for your needs.
